Meet Our Psychiatric Mental 健康 Nurse Practitioner

你好! I am so glad that you clicked the link to learn a bit more about me. I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you about myself and my practice. I find that it helps to establish some common ground and takes away some of the uncertainty by doing this.
I’m originally from Wyoming and graduated with an Associates of Applied Science in Nursing from Laramie County Community College in 2006. I worked at a local hospital in my community and worked as both a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN) while there. My main assignment was on the Labor and Delivery floor, and I worked most closely with infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). I also worked with adults/families on the post-partum unit after delivery and with pediatric patients as well.
继续我的教育, I pursued a Master of Science Degree in Nursing 领导 and Management with Walden University. I graduated from that program in 2012 and moved to Utah where I worked at a Residential Treatment Center (RTC) for youth ages 12-17. 虽然, I enjoyed my time with the residents and staff as we worked with clients who were diagnosed with psychiatric, neurodevelopmental and behavioral challenges. I was privileged to work with a great psychiatrist, many wonderful therapists and other nurses. 在从事这项工作时, I found a passion for mental health care and then enrolled in a Post-master’s Certificate program with Midwestern State University to obtain my certification and training as a Psychiatric Mental 健康 Nurse Practitioner. I graduated from that program in 2014 and was board certified as a PMHNP shortly thereafter.
毕业认证后, I took a position as a PMHNP at a very busy and rural clinic in upstate New Hampshire- in a community at the base of Mount Washington. 虽然, I provided care as the only PMHNP in the county at an outpatient practice that focused on primary care. I retained this position for approximately 5 years and worked with some amazing physicians, nurse practitioners and physician-assistants as well. I also taught classes in the University of New Hampshire online PMHNP post-master’s program. I taught other nurse practitioners who wanted to gain more education to become certified as PMHNPs. I taught courses in Differential Diagnosis, Psychopharmacology and Therapy Modalities.
My family and I moved to Idaho in 2019. It is great to be back in the West once again and love this part of the country! I live here in Moscow with my family and enjoy the community, the rolling hills of the Palouse and the pace of life.
而在这里, I went back to school for the final time and completed my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in the summer of 2022. My clinical project was focused on suicide assessment screening tools and their use in a University 咨询 Center. I particularly enjoy that area of practice, clinical inquiry and specialization. Other areas of clinical interest include bipolar and mood disorders, 抑郁症, anxiety and the convergence of lifestyle factors and their impact on mental wellness.
In my personal time, I enjoy reading, playing video games and painting miniatures. I also enjoy spending time with my family, cooking and exploring new things. I am a lifelong learner and have a voracious appetite for knowledge and understanding. I like to ask questions, to learn from others and consider diverse viewpoints, opinions and concepts.
My goal is to work with my patients to form an alliance with them on their journey to mental wellness. I and am very pleased to be here at the University of Idaho and look forward to helping you on your journey to mental well-being, 毕业与终身冒险!
